Living in Ocean Hammock
Ocean Hammock is a gated, master-planned community on the barrier island in north Palm Coast, between the Atlantic and the Intracoastal Waterway. At roughly 1,000 acres, bordered by more than 300 acres of preserve, it's one of the largest gated communities in Palm Coast.
Ocean Hammock and Hammock Beach are closely connected: Ocean Hammock is the residential side, and the Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa and its golf club sit at its center. The Jack Nicklaus Ocean Course winds through the neighborhoods, so many homes look over fairways, lakes or the ocean. Hammock Dunes, to the south, is a separate gated community.

The Ocean Course and Ocean Hammock
The Ocean Hammock Property Owners Association was formed in 1997, and the Jack Nicklaus-designed Ocean Course opened alongside the community in 2000 as the Ocean Hammock Golf Club. Nicklaus kept the natural "hammocks" of scrub oak and dune vegetation as barriers against the ocean, and several holes play right along the Atlantic. The finishing stretch, nicknamed the "Bear Claw," is one of the best-known in Florida golf.
The course later became part of the Hammock Beach resort and hosted the Ginn Championship on PGA Tour Champions in 2007 and 2008. Professional golf returned in 2026, when the Ocean Course hosted the Constellation Furyk & Friends on PGA Tour Champions, won by Vaughn Taylor in a playoff.
Ocean Hammock real estate
Ocean Hammock is made up of separate neighborhoods, or villages, each with its own style, lot sizes and architectural rules. Some are all single-family homes, some are condominiums, and some mix both:
- Oceanfront and oceanview estate homes close to the beach.
- Golf course homes along the Ocean Course, many with lake and fairway views.
- Condominiums and villas for a lock-and-leave lifestyle.
Homes are governed by the master Ocean Hammock POA plus a neighborhood association, so you pay both. Oceanfront condo dues are typically the largest. Rental rules also vary by neighborhood, so I check the documents for each property before you make an offer.
Amenities and golf
Residents have access to the community's Ocean Walk clubhouse and pool, and some neighborhoods include landscaping and irrigation in their dues. Golf on the Ocean Course and The Conservatory, plus the resort's pools, spa and marina, come through the optional Club at Hammock Beach, a separate membership.
Living at Hammock Beach
Daily life revolves around the beach, the golf and the A1A trail, which runs north toward Marineland and Washington Oaks Gardens State Park. The resort's restaurants are close by, Palm Coast Parkway shopping is about 10 minutes away, and the historic district of St. Augustine is roughly 30 minutes north. Boaters can reach the Intracoastal from nearby marinas and public ramps.
Schools
Ocean Hammock is served by Flagler Schools, which assigns schools by address. Use the district's school zone locator for any home you're considering.
