Palatka is the county seat of Putnam County, about 45 minutes west of Palm Coast, on a wide bend of the St. Johns River. The downtown riverfront has a park, a boat ramp and murals painted on the old buildings, and every spring the Florida Azalea Festival brings a crowd.
The North and South Historic Districts have Victorian and bungalow homes, some restored and some waiting for the right buyer. Outside town you'll find river and creek homes with docks, ranch homes and acreage. Prices are some of the lowest in the area, which is what brings most of my buyers here.
Ravine Gardens State Park is right in town, and the river is great for bass fishing and boating. Larger shopping is in St. Augustine, Palm Coast or Gainesville, each about 30 to 50 minutes away.
On older Palatka homes, I look closely at the roof, plumbing, wiring and the 4-point inspection, since those decide whether you can get insurance. Give me a call and I'll tell you what's worth a look.
